Looking for a Dairy Alternatives?

We've already looked at the compelling reasons why we should limit dairy in our diets.  While I still splurge occasionally with cheese or yogurt, I try to keep my dairy intake to a minimum, as I find it has a major impact on my skin clarity and digestion.

One of the easiest ways to do this is by finding good dairy alternatives to some of your favorite foods.  Here are a my top dairy-alternative refrigerator staples:

1. Blue Diamond Almond Breeze:
This is far and away the best tasting milk alternative on the planet.  Soy milk is scary with all the phytoestrogens, rice milk is devoid of pretty much any nutrition, and hemp milk....blech!  I like the unsweetened original, which only has 40 calories per serving!  Here is the nutrition info on all of the varieties:

2. Grapeseed Oil Vegenaise:
All natural.  Vegan.  Non-GMO.  Gluten free.   This version is also made with grapeseed oil, which has been shown in clinical tests to lower of LDL (the so called 'bad' cholesterol), and increase in HDL (the 'good' cholesterol).  Oh, and it tastes great.  Waaaay better than maynonaise, which I am not a fan of.

3. Earth Balance "Butter" Spread with Olive Oil:

Vegan, no trans fats, smooth and easy-to-spread, and made with heart-healthy olive oil.

4. Tofutti "Better Than Cream Cheese":
They aren't lying.  It's good stuff.  And it is cholesterol free.

5. Tofutti "Better than Sour Cream":
Again, works on top of a baked potato or in a recipe just like the original, but is dairy free.

6. MimicCreme Dairy and Soy Free Creamer:

Great in coffee (although I drink mine black), tea, for making vegan ice cream, or in other recipes.  Silk brand soy creamer is also good, but I like that this is made with nut milk as opposed to soy.

7. TruWhip:

Have you ever read the ingredients of regular cool whip?  When I was younger, on of my "dieters treats" was to eat fat free cool whip instead of ice cream.  Well, check out this YouTube video explaining what that stuff is actually made of:

Grossed out?  I was.  Thank goodness we have TruWhip.  The ingredients? Water, organic tapioca syrup, expeller-pressed palm kernel oil, organic cane sugar, and organic palm kernel oil.  Sounds fine to me...
